A small mountain stream
The source is Small stream #4, sound 1354, by Joseph SARDIN, released on BigSoundBank under CC0. The local derivative is mono, gently peak-shaped, digitally level matched and crossfaded into a 28.5-second repeating loop.
The recording retains natural water detail. It is not white noise renamed as a river, and no music or voice layer is added. Audio credits links to the specific source and explains processing.
Choose a background for the activity
For reading or a quiet activity with an older child, let the activity set the pace. Prepare the stream silently, then use a short timer or stop manually when the activity ends.
If water details draw attention away from reading, choose a steady noise texture or no background. This tool does not make a concentration or learning claim.
Why the prepared mix has one layer
Bedtime Stream uses the stream recording by itself. A low rumble is not automatically added: it could cover the details you chose the recording for.
The main mixer still allows an optional second texture, with a three-layer limit. Review the resulting sound and device output rather than treating a preset name as a recommendation for every child.
